Data mining vs. data extraction
Data extraction is about pulling raw data out of a source. Data mining happens afterward — it analyzes the collected data to find trends, clusters, or predictive patterns, such as identifying which competitor price changes precede a demand shift.
Applications
Common applications include market basket analysis, customer segmentation, fraud detection, and trend forecasting, often built on top of large web-scraped or transactional datasets.
